The TANA South India Disabled Cricket Tournament is an event organized by TANA (Telugu Association of North America) to promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for differently-abled individuals to showcase their talents. The tournament, held annually, aims to empower people with disabilities by providing a platform for them to participate in sports, enhance their skills, and build confidence.
The event brings together players from various regions of South India, where teams compete in cricket matches. TANA’s initiative underscores its commitment to supporting the disabled community and promoting a spirit of unity and resilience through sports.
The tournament also serves as a significant step towards breaking barriers and raising awareness about the capabilities of differently-abled individuals. Through such events, TANA strives to encourage participation, inclusivity, and recognition for individuals with disabilities.
On December 9th, TANA's Chaitanya Sravanthi program was held in Thorredu village, Rajahmundry, with the participation of several TANA leaders and dignitaries. TANA President Anjayya Chowdary Lavu, former President Padma Shri Mutyala, Women’s Secretary Dr. Uma Aramandla, International Coordinator Hitesh Vadlamudi, Foundation Trustees Srinivas Ooruganti, Raja Mutyala, and Sumant Pusuluri were among the prominent attendees.
The event also saw the presence of local political leaders, including Rajahmundry Rural MLA Goranthla Buchayya Chowdary, along with various political figures and government officials. The program, part of TANA’s ongoing efforts to uplift rural communities, emphasized the organization's commitment to social welfare, healthcare, and education, while fostering stronger community engagement.
As part of the TANA Chaitanya Sravanthi initiative, a free mega medical camp was conducted at the Sai Baba Temple in Duvva village, Tanuku Mandal, West Godavari District. The camp was organized jointly by TANA Foundation and Grace Cancer Foundation, Hyderabad.
The event was inaugurated by TANA Foundation President Anjayya Chowdary Lavu and Radhakrishna. During the ceremony, Radhakrishna spoke about the numerous service programs that have been carried out under the leadership of TANA in the constituency, emphasizing the foundation’s dedication to providing healthcare and supporting community welfare in rural areas.
The medical camp offered various health services, including cancer screenings, general medical check ups, and health consultations, benefitting a large number of villagers. The initiative reflects TANA’s commitment to improving public health and well being in underserved regions.
TANA President Anjayya Chowdary Lavu emphasized that the prosperity of farmers is the foundation for national development, and with this resolve, TANA has launched service and support programs dedicated to the welfare of farmers. Under the leadership of TANA ATAC Committee member Pusuluri Sumant, a TANA event was organized in Madduru for farmers.
The day began with educational and cultural activities for students, including games and competitions. Two students were provided bicycles as part of the initiative. Following the student activities, a cancer screening camp was conducted for the local community, showcasing TANA’s commitment to providing healthcare and supporting the welfare of farmers and rural families.
The program was well-received by the community, as it brought together various efforts to improve both education and health in rural areas, aligning with TANA’s core mission of serving and uplifting marginalized communities.
TANA President Anjayya Chowdary Lavu emphasized that TANA’s services and initiatives are a source of inspiration and connection for future generations. He expressed his confidence in the leadership of incoming President Niranjan Srungavarapu to continue these impactful efforts. Niranjan Srungavarapu, in his address, highlighted the wide recognition TANA has garnered for its humanitarian services, particularly through initiatives led by past representatives. He assured the community that TANA’s programs, including support for differently abled individuals and students, would continue without interruption.
The event, organized under the leadership of former TANA President Jay Shekhar Talluri and incoming Samineni Foundation President Ravi Samineni, included the distribution of vehicles and essential items. Additional DCP Bose and other dignitaries, including TANA Trustee Viswanath, Secretary Santosh Vemuri, and NR Foundation representative Bandi Nageswara Rao, participated.
Key services highlighted included health check-ups, surgeries, and providing facilities for students. Many contributors, such as Srinivas, Krishnarao, Sunitha, and Karnati Krishna, were recognized for their efforts in promoting Telugu welfare and development.
Former TANA President Jay Shekhar Talluri also announced a solar plant initiative under the Talluri Panchaksharaya Charitable Trust. A check for ₹7,50,960 was handed over to Annam Srinivas Rao for this project. Talluri reiterated TANA’s unwavering commitment to continuing its service projects in the Telugu states. The event showcased TANA's dedication to community welfare and its focus on uplifting underprivileged sections of society.
TANA Foundation remains committed to utilizing its funds exclusively for service programs benefitting the people of the Telugu states. Former TANA President Talluri Jay Shankar and Trustee Ravi Samineni emphasized that every rupee spent by TANA is put to optimal use for impactful initiatives.
As part of the TANA Chaitanya Sravanthi program, the foundation distributed bicycles to 25 schoolgirls from Patha Edlalanka village in Avanigadda Mandal, Krishna District. These girls, who walk daily to attend high school in Avanigadda, received bicycles to ease their commute.
TANA Foundation also announced that, as part of its biennial initiatives, it continues to provide support such as free eye and cancer screenings, scholarships for students, and distribution of laptops and bicycles.
The event witnessed participation from several dignitaries, including former Minister and Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad, Talluri Jay Shankar, upcoming TANA President Srungavarapu Niranjan, TANA Secretary Vemuri Satish, and TANA Foundation Trustees Ravi Samineni and Vishwanath Nayanipati.
The residents of Patha Edlalanka village expressed their gratitude to TANA leaders, including President Anjayya Chowdary Lavu and Chairman Venkatramana Yarlagadda, for their unwavering support and contributions to the community
Under the leadership of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) and the TANA Foundation, bicycles were distributed to 13 schoolgirls at Gopalapuram High School in Garlamandal, Mahabubabad district, as part of the Adarana program. The bicycles, donated by TANA Foundation Chairman Yarlagadda Venkat Ramana, were handed over to the girls, who previously walked long distances from remote tribal villages to attend school. The girls expressed their happiness and gratitude, mentioning how the bicycles would make their daily commute safer and more convenient.
In addition, in Nerada village of Kuravi Mandal, bicycles were distributed to underprivileged schoolgirls, tricycles to differently-abled individuals, and a laptop to a meritorious student. The event was spearheaded by TANA Trustee Samineni Ravi, with TANA President Anjayya Chowdary Lavu, incoming President Niranjan Srungavarapu, and former President Jay Shekhar Talluri participating.
Local leaders, including Market Committee Chairman Uma Picchireddy and MPP Guguloth Padmavathi, also took part in the program. The villagers welcomed the TANA leaders with traditional music and heartfelt appreciation for their contributions to improving educational access and mobility for rural students.
Under the leadership of TANA Sports Secretary Shashank Yarlagadda, the TANA Flag Football League was successfully launched on July 30, 2022, in North Carolina. This event marked a new chapter in TANA's sports initiatives, engaging youth and providing them with an exciting and fun platform to showcase their skills.
The event was aimed at students from 8th to 12th grade and featured flag football, a popular and dynamic sport. The league attracted participation from the Triangle Area Telugu Association, with active support from local leaders such as Vamsi, Rajesh Yarlagadda, Kiran Kakarla Mudi, and Raj, alongside the efforts of TANA representatives Vinod, Shashank Yarlagadda, Suresh Kakarla, and Sharath Kommneneni.
The competition, which ran from 5 PM to 10 PM, featured teams of enthusiastic players and was organized with excellent coordination between TANA and local community leaders. The event was held in Apex, North Carolina, and contributed to promoting youth engagement through sports.
This inaugural Flag Football League was part of a broader effort by TANA to support various sports, such as basketball, chess, and cricket (including for differently-abled participants), and build a sense of community and team spirit among young Telugu students.
On the occasion of the TANA Backpack Distribution Program, over 200 underprivileged students received school backpacks in Euless, Dallas. The event was organized under the leadership of TANA Regional Representative Satish Kommana and the current TANA President Anjaya Chowdhary, who attended the event from Atlanta.
During the event, Dr. Joe Harrington, the School Superintendent, expressed his appreciation for TANA's support over the last 15 years in providing help to school children and extended his gratitude. Anjaya Chowdhary, the TANA President, highlighted that the Backpack Program, initiated by TANA's former president Dr. Navaneeth Krishna, has gained significant recognition across the U.S. He emphasized that the program is an effort to give back to the community that has provided opportunities for Telugu people to thrive in the country.
In his address, Chowdhary explained that TANA, through its initiatives like the TANA Foundation and TANA Team Square, continues to carry out service oriented programs in both the U.S. and India.
TANA Dallas Team, including Satish Kommana, Lokesh Naidu Konidela, Dr. Prasad Totakura, Srikanth Polavarapu, Ashok Kolla, and Murali Venna, were also acknowledged for their contributions in organizing the event. TANA officials like Chin Satyam Veernapu, Nagaraju Nalajula, Dr. Prasad Totakura, Chandra Police, Pramod Nooteti, Lenin Veera, Venkat Bomma, Dileep, Sudheer Chintamaneni, and Paramesh Devineni participated and contributed to the success of the program.
