About TANA Folk Art Festival
With a primary purpose of uplifting the traditional Folk Art, TANA is conducting Folk Art Festival since 2000. Since starting, this festival is conducted during December of even numbered year in Andhra Pradesh. The TANA Folk Art venue selection committee decides the venue in advance. The first Folk Art Festival (2000) was conducted in Sidhartha Auditorium, Vijayawada. The second (2002) was conducted in Hyderabad. The third festival (2004) was conducted in Tirupathi.
During these festivals, TANA invites artists representing various folk arts from all over the Andhra Pradesh. The Folk Department of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University coordinates the identification of folk arts and artists. All the artists are provided with transportaion, accommodation expenses. TANA also recognizes them with awards and appropriate remuneration.
This year, 2006, TANA is conducting the Fourth Folk Art Festival in Sri Venkateswara Vignaana Mandiram, Guntur. This three-day festival will be conducted from December 22 thru 24. Approximately 450 artists are expected to participate in this event, representing 34 various folk art forms.
This event will begin at 4:00 PM with a rally on 22nd evening , in which all the folk artists will participate and display their talent. This rally will be followed by inaugural ceremony and few folk art performances.
During this ceremony TANA recognizes two distinguished individuals, who has contributed the most to the Folk Art. In addition, to bring folk art awareness among kids, TANA is conducting Elocution, Drawing and Essay Writing competitions to school children.
